NDOE welcomes new staff on boardWritten by Mario S. Abello
The National Department of Education welcomes Mrs. Pearl Habuchmai Olter-Pelep on board as the new Student Services Coordinator. Mrs. Olter-Pelep joins the National Department of Education with a solid background in education, psychology, and computer science. She is a graduate of Pohnpei Seventh Day Adventist High School. Her education career began with an attainment of an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Science from College of Micronesia-FSM in 2004. Two years later, Mrs. Pearl as she is normally called at the office, received her Third Year Certificate in education under the Teacher Preparation Program of her previously mentioned Alma mater. Just when one might think she would think of putting off her educational quest to an halt, she persisted a couple of steps further to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo in Hawaii, which was conferred upon her in 2010. But her journey did stop not there. Mrs. Pearl with her cheerful smiles and outgoing personality quietly had her mind set for the “High grade”. In 2013, all the privileges of being a Master of Arts recipient in educational leadership is now hers and deservingly so many would add. In her present capacity as a Student Services Coordinator, she is responsible for discharging financial packages to FSM students home and abroad to fulfill their educational goals while enriching their lives for the future.
When asked about the secret of her success, Mrs. Pearl has few things to say. “I believe in moving forward and taking smaller steps at a time. Hard work will be paid off in the end. To accomplish great things, people must not only act but also dream and not only plan but do believe that anything is possible. My expectations are to learn as I go along. The good and bad will be encountered but the key to all is to have patience and sacrifice.”
